I am not the wisest and I make my fair share of mistakes, but if I could go back in time and talk to a younger me, this is what I would tell myself…
One day, you will regret the amount of soda you want to drink to get you through the day. I absolutely cannot go without caffeine and I have a deep love for carbonated drinks. I wish that I would have always just drank water. I honestly drink my calories daily and I need to work on it.
Life comes at you faster than you know, and plans have a tendency to change. Enjoy the here and now. There will never be “this exact moment” again. I have friends that are getting married, graduating, and moving. Life constantly changes so take advantage of the moments. Stay awake later than you want to if your friend wants to hang. Get off the couch and go be adventurous. Treasure every moment, even the silly or simple ones.
Do not change yourself to fit in with people. You will find your tribe one way or another. Find the friends that are perfectly fine with who you are. Find the friends that want to sing on the top of their lungs to silly songs and the friends that are okay with hanging out on the couch watching rom-coms all day. Life is so much more fun/easier when you do not have to try to be someone else in order to be liked.
One of my biggest problems is wanting to do everything and not ever wanting to say no. It is okay to take time to yourself though. Take time to read that book you have been wanting to read, to blog about something random, to play candycrush on your phone, or take a long bath. The world and your problems will all still be there after you taken a moment to yourself.
It is honestly one of the best experiences that I have ever had. There is so much that can be learned from a child. It is a chance to love on children, and grow as a person. Mentoring creates bonds like no other. The children you get to mentor want to spend time with you. They want to tell you stories and have you pour love into their lives.
Spending time with my family is one of my favorite things in this world. They support me and help me grow. I call my mom daily, and she has become one of my best friends. The older I get, the more I appreciate special times with my siblings, grandparents, and parents. Listen to their stories and tell them yours.
Whether it is a stupid boy or a friend, do not look to somebody else to find your happiness. Be yourself and search for happiness within yourself. People will let you down, even if they do not mean to. We are all humans and we fail sometimes. Understand that the only person that can truly help you find your happiness is yourself.
Take time to find out who are, take time to hang out with friends, take time to study and work hard, and take time to be yourself. Life isn’t a race. Slow down and take a deep breath. If it takes you three times of changing your major to be happy, that is okay. Take time to find your tribe, take time to find someone who cares about you and your happiness, and take time to enjoy life. Do not stress if you do not have it all together, because it will all work out one day.
