This summer I had an opportunity to be a missionary in Sumpango, Guatemala and it was the best week of my life. I was able to make new friendships, grow as a person, be adventurous, try new things, and love on people through God’s mission. It was a week full of happiness, struggles, and growing as an individual and as a child of God.

Through Next Step Ministries, I was able to be part of a team that spent a week pouring into people by building a house and building relationships. The team I was on helped build a room onto a house for a young single mother. The best part was that she helped us build it and we were given the opportunity to hang out with her and her precious son all week long.

I learned that I am not as strong as I think I am, that cinder blocks seem to get heavier the more they are carried, that mixing concrete can actually be pretty entertaining, and that nothing makes you happier than doing something that you feel passionate about. If you ever get an opportunity to help someone out in another country or even just another town, go for it because it will be worth it!
